🇬🇧 April 25 is Freedom Day, or Liberation Day, in two European countries: Italy and Portugal.

We celebrate the liberation from the fascist dictatorship by the Italian Partisan Resistence movement and the Portuguese Carnation Revolution.

It is a day of reflexion on our liberties and and democratic principles, which too often, in times of peace, we take for granted. But many people fought and died to obtain them.

The most famous symbols related to these antifascist values are the red carnation flowers and the popular anthem Bella Ciao, used throughout the world and translated in many languages to convey the message of resistance, tolerance, and freedom.
